None of my homework is due for two days.....

So I went shopping. I found these:

And I'm in love. I need to go do some retail therapy asap.

So here's a story to share. Today in English, we got a paper that was a clipping from Housekeeping Monthly in 1955. It was entitled, The Good Wife's Guide. It looked like this:

Now, I don't know if you can read it or not, but it's the epitome of the idealistic 1950's house which equals what I want, idealistically, my home to be. Yes, I know marriage isn't a walk in the park and it's not always going to be perfect, but the list above is what I want to be like when I run my own home (minus the lack of husband caring slash true communication). Anyway, when my English teacher opened the floor for discussions, I popped my hand up and said,

"This makes me happy!"

NEVER in my life have I heard such a uproar! I felt like EVERYONE jumped on my back and started attacking me. They all (being the girls in the class) started yelling, "Are you kidding me?!" "This makes me want to vomit!" "How could a husband ever expect that?!" And I thought,

"What in the name if Norma Jean is going on? Isn't a wife supposed to love her husband and adore him and want to make him happy? That's what I want to do- heck! that's what I'm going to do! My home is going to be as happy and well kept as possible! I was meant to be a mother and a nurturer and wife. And I fully intend on it, thank you very much."

I swear all the girls in that class think I have no self-worth at all because A. I'm not a feminist B. I don't plan on having a super serious career and C. I want to please my husband and nurture my children. But let me tell you, I know for a fact who I am, and what I'm supposed to do, and what role I will play in my family. I intend to devote my life to my family with no regrets. It's not that I don't think I can't go out and make a life for myself, it's that I want to make a family for myself. Family will always be the most important thing in life, no matter what, and I am going to keep that value strong in my home, because I know who I am, not because I've been told it's what I have to do.

Anyway, that was my minute of passion that never came out in class.... What do you think about this whole deal? I'd be very interested to know.

Love Always,
Ems

I agree with that paper thing MOSTLY... but some of it makes me go, wait what??
Like, "his topics of conversation are more important than yours..."
disagree...
and
"you have no right to question him"
of course we have the right to question things!

But I agree with making it a pleasant place to come home to and being a pleasant person and serving him! I'm all for that, I just don't agree when it makes it seem like we are less important, thats all :)

but sorry that everyone freaked out on you!!

I totally agree with you about not being a feminist. And there are so many gals out there who would give me strange looks right now... I don't WANT to do things by myself! I want to be led and loved and to love and nurture and support my Husband. It's the way God set it up. And that's QUITE alright with me!

just found your blog and love it! following!
luv,
Kate

I'm not sure about having it all figured out, but I try! :) Thank you for the great idea for a post--seriously. I love hearing everyone's take on different topics; the blogosphere is lovely like that!

Ok, the moment I read this, I saved it to my computer because it makes me happy too :) I believe in doing all those things! And if i marry the kind of husband i dream of, and strive to deserve, then he will do such similar things back to me! So it all works out! Usually I agree with you on these things :)

I pretty much agree with that, too. And I would like to dress like a 50's housewife, too. ;)
